Social Entrepreneurship – Now is the Time

Social Entrepreneurship is a significant field of interest in civic and social organizations and has a substantial effect on several areas of society. During recent years economic resources are becoming more challenging to obtain and society has continued to exhibit cultural and economic decline. Communities are in need of applications that will improve the viability of the populace and initiatives that will improve their viability. Social Entrepreneurship initiatives are partnerships that may act as a method of raising a cause, business or community while improving the viability of an organization’s value. With this social entrepreneurship has been defined in various ways by many theorists. Gary McPherson, Executive Administrator of the Canada Centre for Social Entrepreneurship, says that social entrepreneurship entails various individuals working toward fulfilling social and economic goals simultaneously; while Bill Drayton, CEO of Ashoka, defines social entrepreneurship for a term coined to describe people who unite the pragmatic and results oriented methods of a business entrepreneur with the aims of social reform.

Social Entrepreneurship

A more basic Definition of social entrepreneurship states it is the practice of using entrepreneurial and business skills to create innovative approaches to societal issues. It is a methodology that is presently being used to solve social and community concerns. Social entrepreneurship as an area of entrepreneurship is not defined by the titling in every civilization. By way of instance, in Latin America nations social entrepreneurship initiatives are known as Micro Enterprise. In India the identical program would be identified as a Social Mission. Though termed differently in a variety of areas, social entrepreneurship initiatives are being used to address specific societal and community issues by focusing on the requirements and resource availability within particular geographical areas. In Harvard, 1993 Business School began its social business program with its mission of creating and sharing knowledge to assist people and organizations to create social value in the non-profit, public and private sectors, and the University of Miami has refocused its business school program to include cooperation in the fields of ethical-decision making, social entrepreneurship and community involvement with the principal focus being to expose students to different areas of civic participation while simultaneously teaching them leadership and team building skills.

Tertiary level Institutions, such as Duke, which has established a Center for the Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship within its Fuqua School of Business, and Columbia University in which i loved this research initiative on social entrepreneurship is embedded in its own faculty of business, also have made strides to improve the research and education of those attempting to venture into regions of social entrepreneurship and social enterprise implementation. The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business-International, AACSB International has identified over twenty four tertiary level institutions which have included social entrepreneurship as part of their business faculty or company curriculums.
