Information from York residents  lead to the arrest of four people who were charged in
connection with a burglary where a large sum of money and other items were stolen
according to York Police Chief David Rowry.
“The home of Mr. and Mrs. I. Radcliffe was burglarized on March 23 and a large sum of
money was taken along with other items including a safe,” reported Chief Rowry.
Two juveniles, both from York were arrested and charged with Burglary in the third
degree.
Theresa Holloway Jenkins and Pamela Holloway, mother and daughter both of York, were
arrested and charged with Receiving Stolen Property.
The home is located on Second Ave.  across the street from Piggly Wiggly. The Radcliffe’
s operate a business in the bottom part of the home and live upstairs.
Chief Rowry said the burglars apparently gained entry by using the stairs on th left side of
the house and  breaking a window. they reached in and un-hooked a latch. They then
removed a safe which weighed 60 -70 pounds and carried it down the street behind
Rogers Upholstery.
They were able to pry open the safe with some type of tool where the large sum of money
and other important documents were stored according to police reports.
Chief Rowry commended York Police Sgt. B. Harris and YPD Investigator  Ray McVay who
worked the case.
Chief Rowry released an official statement from his office Tuesday, April 16.
“On March 23, 2008 (Easter Morning) I. Radcliffe, a resident of York, home was
burglarized.
“Upon preliminary response to the scene, Sgt. B. Harris was able to gather information
about items taken. One item was a locked safe which contained different items including a
large amount of cash and important personal documents.
“The safe and some items were recovered on the same day by the diligent efforts of the
York Officers in a nearby location. From the safe, we were able to lift prints which aided in
our investigation.
“At this point the investigation was turned over to Investigator Ray L. McVay, Jr.  With tips
pouring in from concerned citizens of York,  McVay was able to obtain names of possible
suspects. These suspects were brought in for questioning and later arrested on charges
of Burglary in the Third Degree.
“Two suspects were arrested in the burglary and they were both juveniles. At this point no
money was found, so the investigation continued. Again tips came in from the citizens of
York, which lead to the arrest of two adults which ironically were mother and daughter.
“These suspects were Theresa Holloway Jenkins and Pamela Holloway, both of York.
Jenkins was arrested for receiving stolen property in the first degree with a bond amount
of $20,000.00. Her daughter was charged with receiving stolen property in the second
degree with a bond amount of $10,000.00 They both were placed in the Sumter County
Detention Center awaiting trial. Also, two vehicles were confiscated which had been
purchased with some of the monies stolen.
“The York Police Department wishes to thank the fine citizens of York for all of there help
on this case and also advises our citizens to report any suspicious activities, vehicles, or
persons to the police department immediately in hopes of possibly curtailing more criminal
activities.”
“I really appreciate the good work by the York Police Department. They are doing a good
job and have worked diligently on my case,’ stated Mrs. Radcliffe.
In other YPD arrests:
Jermain Scott (24) of York was arrested on April 9, 2008 on a misdemeanor charge for
disorderly conduct. Mr. Scott was processed and taken to the Sumter County Detention
Center.
Edward Chapman (24) of Livingston was arrested on April 12, 2008 on a misdemeanor
charge for resisting arrest. Mr. Chapman was processed and allowed to settle the  charge.
Detrick Bell (27) of York was arrested on April 12, 2008 on two misdemeanor warrants for
contempt of court and failure to appear. Mr. Bell was processed and taken to the Sumter
County Detention Center.
