A stolen Black 350 GMC Duley truck
wrecked when it slammed into an oak
tree on Valley Road in Livingston on
Wednesday, March 26 at 12:32 p.m.
The truck is owned by Deanna Mixon,
a University of West Alabama student
from Florida who is also on the Rodeo
Team.
According to friends at the scene, the
vehicle owner was at work when she
received a phone call from her mother
in Florida, asking if “everything was
alright.” OnStar, the GPS tracking
system for vehicles, contacted the
mother and informed her that the truck
had been involved in wreck. Mixon had
traveled to work at around 10:30 a.m.
with a friend and left her vehicle at
home, so she was unaware that the
truck had been stolen until OnStar
contacted her mother. She and her
friends then left work and went to the
scene of the accident to find the Sheriff’
s Department had arrived. Sheriff
Johnny Hatter stated the suspect, a
black female, was still in the wrecked
vehicle upon his arrival. The suspect
was taken to the hospital in Demoplis.
Friends of Mixon stated that “she (the
suspect) had the keys to the truck”
and “drove off in it.” It was unclear to
them how she obtained the keys,
because according to them, Mixon had
left the keys at home when she went to
work. Also responding to the incident
was Alabama State Trooper, Joe
Benison from the Tuscaloosa office
and Chief Roy Porter of the Bluffport
Volunteer Fire Department.
